ENGLISH : The teaching of English looks to promote high standards of language and literacy by equipping pupils with a strong command of the spoken and written word, and develop their love of literature through widespread reading for enjoyment. It comprises speaking and listening, reading and writing.
SPEAKING AND LISTENING : The curriculum aims at continual development of pupils confidence and competence in spoken language and listening skills,capacity to explain their understanding of books and other readings and to prepare their ideas before they write. They are to be assisted in making their thinking clear to themselves as well as to others.
Reading : The programmes of study for reading consist of two dimensions-
- word reading
- comprehension (both listening and reading).
Writing :The programmes of study for writing comprises -
- transcription (spelling and handwriting)
- composition (articulating ideas and structuring them in speech and writing).
MATHEMATICS : The curriculum for mathematics aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.
- Reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language .
- Can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in simple solutions.
SCIENCE : The curriculum for science aims to ensure that all pupils-
- Develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding.
- Develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of researches that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them.
- Are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
SOCIAL STUDIES : The curriculum aims to develop an understanding of the history , geography and culture of the UAE and the world.
COMPUTING STUDIES: Computer Studies is taught as a compulsory subject to develop and enhance the knowledge of the uses of computers such that the students become proficient users of the computer.
LANGUAGES
Arabic is taught as a compulsory subject to enable the students to be equipped with the local and official language of the UAE.
Urdu , Hindi and French are offered as optional languages for students to be conversant with the language of their choice.
Islamic Studies is taught as a compulsory subject for all followers of Islam to teach the principles of the religion.
