Welcome to Hartland International School

Welcome to Hartland and to the Hartland Way. We care passionately – about excellent learning and teaching, about learning for life, about education – but most of all we care passionately about your child. We are very proud of what we do – proud of our unique programme for the gifted and talented, designed specially for Hartland by a leading world expert, and just as proud of our programme for those with special learning needs, served by its own team of experts and staff. That same pride carries through to our growing enrichment programme, which with us is an essential entitlement for all children, our preference for experience-based learning where what we teach is related directly to the world the child knows, and our absolute belief that if you teach a child to think you teach them to fly. We want our children to be independent learners, self-starters who will be just as happy in a public exam when they come across a question they haven’t covered five times before because they know they can think their way out of new and challenging situations. We want our children to blend confidence in their ability with the resilience to cope when things don’t always go right first-time round, and we want them to grow up to be adults who are never frightened to rise to a challenge because they are too frightened of failing. We are based on ten core values, recorded in and encouraged by the unique Hartland Passport, one of the many ways we seek to nurture values in our pupils, and make ours a value-based education. We think the best way to find out about the Hartland Way is to come and see us, and see our children come out of their lessons with a smile on their faces and a fire for learning in their heart. Please join us on one of the newest and most exciting journeys in Dubai. Our teachers harness each child’s curiosity, using real life examples to ensure that their lessons are both understood and remembered. Our children are often taught outside of their classrooms with Foundation students searching for letters on the school’s signage whilst Year 3 discover the ways of the Aztecs through hands-on investigations around the school and Year 6 learn how to create an exciting new chocolate bar. We encourage them to think and to question, equipping them with the skills that they will need to enjoy a successful future. Of course, we also ensure that they have a solid foundation of traditional skills; spelling, grammar and times tables are very much part of our school life.

Enrichment is an Entitlement at Hartland

As part of our curriculum, our children spend four hours per week broadening their knowledge and skills. We encourage students to build both on current talents and work on developing new ones by choosing a balanced range of activities from those on offer. The Hartland Passport encourages our students to develop a set of values which, when combined with their academic and enrichment skills, will equip them for life.   Within each child’s passport, the values are broken down into tangible actions with students earning stamps as they demonstrate each one. Ambassador Visas are awarded to those children who go above and beyond and to those who have achieved all of the stamps within a value.

Working Together

It is essential that we form a strong partnership between our school, each child and their parents. In our Hopes and Dreams meetings, at the start of each academic year, we seek to understand your aspirations for your child and develop personal goals and targets together. These stretch across every aspect of school life to deliver an experience that it More than an Education. You will then receive a focused weekly progress report letting you know how your child is doing.
