GEMS World Academy offers one of Dubai's most distinctive academic pathways: a complete, unbroken International Baccalaureate continuum from Nursery through Grade 12. Beginning with a Reggio-inspired IB Nursery for ages two to three, the school progresses through the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), and offers dual senior pathways in both the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and the IB Career-related Programme (CP) for Grades 11 and 12. GWA is one of only two schools in the UAE authorised to offer all four IB programmes — a distinction that places it in rare company among the 40 IB curriculum schools in Dubai. Senior school graduates also receive a CIS and NEASC accredited High School Diploma, adding a further internationally recognised credential alongside their IB qualification.

Academic outcomes at GWA are competitive within the IB sector. The school reports an IB Diploma average score of 34 — above the global IB average of 30 — alongside a 100% IB pass rate. In international literacy benchmarking, the school achieved a PIRLS 2021 average score of 576, exceeding its set target by 26 points. University placement results are a particular strength: over 60% of IB Diploma graduates are accepted to a Top 50 QS World University, with destinations including the University of Cambridge, Oxford, Yale, and Princeton, and over 90% of students attend their first or second choice university. These figures position GWA firmly among the leading IB schools in the emirate.

The school's 2023–2024 KHDA inspection awarded an overall rating of Very Good — a rating GWA has held consistently since 2017–2018, placing it among the stronger performers within Dubai's IB cohort, where 10 of 40 IB schools hold an Outstanding rating and GWA has not yet reached that tier. Inspectors rated curriculum design and implementation as Outstanding across all phases, and personal and social development as Outstanding throughout the school — a genuine differentiator. Teaching in KG was rated Outstanding, with science attainment in KG also rated Outstanding. English attainment was rated Very Good across all phases.

Specialist provision is broad. The school's Language Institute operates the largest mother tongue language programme among all schools in the UAE, serving students from over 100 nationalities. Alongside Arabic instruction, the school runs dedicated programmes for Students of Determination — with 197 students of determination enrolled — as well as EAL support, a Gifted and Talented programme, and an Entrepreneurship and Innovation track. The University and Careers Counselling programme provides structured, individualised guidance from the senior years. The school also delivers Moral, Social and Cultural Studies (MSCS) in compliance with UAE Ministry of Education requirements.

Inspectors and reviewers identified several areas requiring attention. The KHDA report flagged that the use of assessment data to support diverse learners — particularly EAL students and newcomers — is inconsistent, and that teaching quality is variable in Islamic Education, Arabic, and mathematics. Arabic as an Additional Language attainment in MYP was rated Weak, a persistent concern. External benchmark results in PYP and DP mathematics also fell below lesson-observed attainment, suggesting a gap between classroom performance and standardised outcomes. Compared to peer IB schools in Dubai that hold Outstanding ratings, GWA's teaching consistency across all subjects and phases remains the primary gap to close.
