KHDA Inspection Results (Decoded)
KHDA inspectors found that teaching quality in PYP and MYP, while rated Good, lacks the consistent challenge and critical thinking integration seen in KG and DP. Teachers' expectations need raising and assessment data needs to be used more effectively to personalise learning.
Arabic as a first language attainment in MYP is rated Weak - the only Weak rating in the entire inspection. Basic literacy gaps including reading, phonics, grammar and vocabulary are identified as underlying causes. This is a significant gap given Arabic speakers are the school's largest student nationality group.
Inspection History
Fees & Value for Money
GEMS International School - Al Khail offers an International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum from Pre-KG through Grade 12, with KHDA-approved tuition fees for 2025-26 ranging from AED 52,415 for Pre-KG up to AED 79,488 for Grades 11 and 12. The fee structure is tiered across four broad bands: early years (Pre-KG to KG2), primary lower (Grades 1–4), primary upper and middle school (Grades 5–8), and secondary (Grades 9–10 and 11–12), reflecting the increasing resources and specialist teaching required at each stage.
Tuition fees are payable in three termly instalments on a 40/30/30 split, with the first term's payment representing 40% of the annual fee and the second and third terms each representing 30%. The school accepts a range of payment methods including cash, credit card, cheque, wire transfer, and direct online payment. A non-refundable application fee of AED 525 is charged for new students, and a registration deposit of 10% of annual tuition is required upon acceptance of a place (deductible from total fees). Existing students pay a re-registration deposit of 5% of annual tuition to secure their place for the following year.
The school offers sibling discounts for families enrolling a 4th or 5th child, with 15% off for the 4th sibling and 25% for the 5th sibling and above (applicable from Pre-KG to Grade 12, excluding nursery). Rated Good by DSIB in 2023–24, the school provides strong value within the IB international school segment in Dubai, with fees broadly competitive for a full IB continuum school in the Al Khail area.

The Final Verdict: Who Is This School For?
THE “RIGHT FIT”
Internationally mobile families seeking a complete IB education from KG to Grade 12, students with STEM and aviation passions, and families who value genuine nationality diversity and an inclusive, warm school culture.
THE “WRONG FIT”
Families prioritising Arabic language development, parents seeking an Outstanding KHDA rating, or those whose children need consistently high academic challenge throughout the primary and lower secondary years rather than primarily at the DP stage.
It was no doubt from my side that they were going to an IB school. I strongly believe that their independence and their critical thinking skills are preparing them really well.
