Curriculum & Academics
Emirates Future International Academy delivers the Indian CBSE curriculum from KG1 through Grade 12, structured across four phases: Primary (KG–Grade 4), Secondary (Grades 5–10), and Senior Secondary (Grades 11–12) with Science and Commerce stream options. Founded in 1986, EFIA is one of only two schools in Abu Dhabi explicitly classified under the CBSE curriculum by ADEK, making it a rare and specialist choice for families seeking this pathway. Languages of instruction are English and Arabic, with Hindi, Malayalam, and French offered as additional language options — a breadth that reflects the school's diverse South Asian community.
The school's most recent ADEK Irtiqa inspection in 2024–25 rated EFIA Good, a meaningful step up from its Acceptable rating in 2021. Among Indian curriculum schools in Abu Dhabi, this places EFIA in the upper tier: of the 34 rated Indian curriculum schools citywide, 14 hold a Good rating, 10 Very Good, and just 1 Outstanding, meaning EFIA sits in the majority Good band but has not yet broken into the higher performance tier. Inspectors noted that students' achievement has notably improved, particularly in Arabic medium subjects across most phases, and that teaching and assessment have improved from Acceptable to Good in Phases 2 and 3.
External assessment data presents a mixed but improving picture. In CBSE Grade 10 and 12 examinations, outcomes are outstanding overall in English and very good in Grade 12 biology, but weak in mathematics at both Grade 10 and Grade 12 — a persistent concern that inspectors flagged explicitly. In the Ei ASSET external assessments for Grades 3–9, Phase 2 students demonstrated good attainment in Mathematics and English and very good attainment in Science, while Phase 3 and Grade 9 results were weak across all three subjects. On international benchmarks, the school achieved its PISA 2022 science literacy target with a score of 486.6, above the international average, though PISA reading scored 453.6, below both the school's own target of 474.6 and the international average. TIMSS 2019 Grade 4 and Grade 8 mathematics scores of 474.98 and 480.02 respectively placed students within the intermediate international benchmark range, while PIRLS 2021 returned a Grade 4 score of 534, also at the intermediate benchmark.
EFIA's most distinctive academic feature is its serious engagement with international benchmarking. The school has established dedicated TIMSS, PISA, and PIRLS preparation programs, with weekly student tasks replicating assessment question formats and targeted professional development to strengthen teacher questioning in the reasoning domain. This is uncommon among Indian curriculum schools in Abu Dhabi and signals an institutional ambition that extends beyond CBSE pass rates. The Phonics program running from KG through Grade 4 and the Read with Me parent reading initiative further distinguish the school's literacy approach, supported by a well-stocked bilingual library with a full-time librarian and timetabled weekly library lessons for all classes.
Inspectors identified several areas requiring attention. Mathematics remains a significant weakness at both Grade 10 and Grade 12 CBSE level, and attainment in English and Mathematics in Phase 3 (Cycle 2) remains only Acceptable. The identification and support of gifted and talented students was flagged as insufficient, as was the identification of students with additional learning needs — despite 9 students of determination being enrolled and a new inclusion lead having been appointed. Access to and use of educational technologies across all phases was also cited as inconsistent. Compared to higher-performing Indian curriculum peers in Abu Dhabi, EFIA's trajectory is positive but mathematics outcomes and technology integration represent clear gaps that parents should weigh carefully. University destination data is not currently published by the school, which limits comparison on post-18 outcomes. [MISSING: university placement statistics and destinations]
