Al Yasat Private School delivers the American curriculum from KG1 through Grade 12, following US Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English and Mathematics, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for Science, and Virginia State Standards of Learning (SOL) for Physical Education. Arabic, Islamic Studies, UAE Social Studies, and Moral Education are taught in Arabic under UAE Ministry of Education guidelines. Graduates receive a US High School Diploma, and the school holds full accreditation from Cognia (formerly AdvancED) — ensuring the diploma is recognised by universities internationally. In Grades 9–12, students can pursue Advanced Placement (AP) pathways, providing a meaningful route to university-level study before graduation. Among 42 American curriculum schools in Abu Dhabi, AYPS is one of only two rated above Acceptable — placing it in a small group of higher-performing American curriculum providers in the city.
The school's academic identity is shaped by its predominantly Emirati student body — 1,334 of 1,427 students are UAE nationals — and by a deliberate integration of UAE cultural values alongside the American framework. The Arabic Center of Excellence and strong performance in the Arabic Benchmark Test (ABT) 2024/25 reflect this commitment: Arabic attainment was rated Outstanding in Phase 2 and Very Good in Phases 3 and 4, while Islamic Education achieved Outstanding in Phases 2 and 3 and Social Studies reached Outstanding across all three assessed phases. These results stand in notable contrast to performance in English-medium international assessments, where the gap between cultural-subject excellence and core academic benchmarks is a defining challenge for the school.
The 2024–25 Irtiqaa inspection, which rated AYPS Good overall — a rating held consistently across three consecutive inspection cycles (2018–19, 2021–22, 2024–25) — found that MAP standardized assessment attainment in English, mathematics, and science was Weak across Phases 2, 3, and 4, despite Good or Very Good progress in several phases. International benchmarks tell a similar story: in PISA 2022, students scored 358 in reading, 369 in mathematics, and 389 in science — all below the international averages of 476, 472, and 485 respectively. PIRLS 2021 placed Grade 4 readers at the low international benchmark with a score of 440. A brighter picture emerged in TIMSS 2023, where Grade 4 students exceeded school targets in both subjects — scoring 466 in mathematics (target: 440) and 472 in science (target: 429) — though both remain below international averages.
Where AYPS genuinely distinguishes itself is in the breadth of its specialist provision. The Gifted and Talented Program provides identified students with Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs), while 79 students of determination are supported through on-campus therapy services including Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and Psychological Services. The school-wide Genius Hour program extends independent inquiry to all students. Inspectors rated the school's care and support provision Very Good across all phases, and personal and social development was also judged Very Good across all phases — a genuine strength in a school where student wellbeing and cultural identity are central to the school's purpose. The school reports that 90% of graduates are accepted into university and 60% have been awarded scholarships, though specific university destination data is not publicly available.
Inspectors identified four priority areas for improvement: raising achievement to Very Good across core subjects; improving teaching, assessment, and curriculum differentiation — particularly for gifted and higher-attaining students; strengthening the analytical rigour of school self-evaluation; and raising scores in international assessments through more systematic preparation. The persistent gap between strong internal assessment data and weaker external benchmark results was specifically flagged, with inspectors noting that internal assessment procedures lack sufficient rigour and reliability. Compared to peer American curriculum schools, AYPS's fee range of AED 34,200–AED 52,440 sits above the American curriculum median of AED 33,610 in Abu Dhabi, positioning it as a mid-to-upper option within its curriculum group — a positioning that makes closing the international benchmarking gap an increasingly important priority for the incoming leadership team.
