Early Childhood Programme – Kindergarten

The two-year Early Childhood Program, for 3-year-olds turning 4 (Kindergarten 1) and 4-year-olds turning 5 (Kindergarten 2), provides a stimulating environment where the needs of the whole child are nurtured. Central to the Early Childhood Program is respect for the uniqueness of each child. Different levels of ability, development and learning styles are expected, accepted and used to design appropriate activities.

The classroom environment is designed for children to learn through active exploration and interaction with adults and other children. Learning is through doing. Work and play are interchangeable, and all classroom experiences yield learning opportunities. Project work, usually an in-depth study of a topic that is of significant interest to each child, is incorporated in both KG1 and KG2.

Grades 1–4

Students in Grades 1–4 gradually move from a developmentally based program toward a more formalized approach to learning. Children continue to learn by doing, practicing previously learned skills and acquiring new ones. Teachers encourage the formation of good work and study habits and organizational skills as well as a respect and understanding for other cultures. They endeavor to stimulate every child’s interest, curiosity and creativity, challenge each student to fulfill his/her potential, and promote a true love of learning.

Individual and group work in all core subjects is used to enhance students’ problem-solving, critical-thinking and logic skills. Al Takamul Private School students may come from many different schools and learning environments and their learning needs are assessed regularly to ensure their success. Teamwork and responsibility are emphasized throughout the Elementary years.

Middle School

In Middle School, Grade 5-8 students experience a dramatic shift in their cognitive abilities as they move from a concrete mode of thought to a more abstract level of thinking. To foster this growth, the curriculum is structured to guide students to make connections and see relationships among subject areas and within the world beyond the classroom.

Independence and organization are stressed throughout the program as students learn to do research and use a wide variety of technologies to enhance the acquisition, analysis, communication and presentation of information. Teachers emphasize active learning, using a student-centered approach and a variety of assessment techniques. The goal is to promote academic excellence and provide a supportive and creative atmosphere, while simultaneously cultivating a lifelong love of learning
