Students at AMPS are now experiencing an American curriculum that embraces STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) education. We are working collaboratively to build students’ critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills.
Early Year
The early years phase includes KG1 and KG2. These years are formative. At Al Maaref, the foundations are laid for a happy and positive school experience. Research has shown the early years are a very important phase in students achieving their full potential. Fundamental skills in reading and mathematics are taught and brain-based developmental strategies are used to stimulate learning and a supportive environment. Our staff members are loving and passionate about making the first steps of each childs educational journey an enjoyable one. We believe in creating a positive, safe and curiosity-provoking environment where students can be imaginative, creative, and engaged learners. We encourage parents to partner with us along this journey.
Elementary
Our elementary program follows a blocked-scheduled model to maximize students’ learning in core subjects. Classroom teachers in grades one through four teach core subjects in sixty-minute blocks to address common core shifts in Math and English. In the science block, students have begun develop investigatory exploration of science through NGSS enhancements to the NYS curriculum. Library and computer technology (ICT) skills are integrated into the homerooms. Elective teachers push into these classrooms to enhance students’ development of Arabic language and culture, Islamic Studies, social studies, art, music and physical education. The school day is extended twice a week to offer free co-curricula and learning support to students.
Middle School
Our middle school instructional program is designed to support core values that adolescent students need to build independence and overcome insecurities, and peer-pressure. Starting out with the organization, grades five through eight classes are gender-separated to sustain cultural values and help student focus on academics. A daily advisory program compliments the instructional program by teaching students life survival skills and UAE Moral Education curriculum. The NYS common core is taught in all discipline with enhancements added to fit UAE culture and international standards. Additionally, school day is extended twice a week to offer students free co-curricula, electives and learning.
High School
The AMPS high school academic year is divided into two semesters. The curriculum provides a rigorous American College Preparatory program. We are focusing on building academic skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and research skills so we can move students closer to acquiring the UAE National Agenda Parameter targets. Similarly, the advisory program seeks to develop students’ soft skills so they can be successful in college, career and life. Soft skills are the combination of emotional intelligence, moral education, character traits, interpersonal and communication skills that enable people to effectively preform well and succeed. In addition to the courses offered during the academic school day, AMPS has implemented co-curricular and extra-curricular program that provide students with some opportunities to explore talents in athletics, STEM, the arts and community service.
The high school faculty is composed of a dedicated, professional team of teachers from around the world. They are working hard to ensure each student is provided with high-quality education, care and support as they navigate their high school years.
