Leadership & Governance
Principal Fatma Ahmad Mohammad Al Abdulla has led Al Basateen Private Nursery - Al Khwaneej Branch since 4 August 2002 — a tenure of more than two decades that represents an exceptional degree of leadership continuity rarely seen across Dubai's private school sector. Operated under the Al-Nahda Women's Association - Al-Khawaneej Branch, the nursery is a community-rooted institution with a clear and consistent vision centred on Emirati cultural identity, Islamic values, and inclusive early childhood education.
The most recent KHDA inspection, conducted in October 2023, rated overall leadership effectiveness as Good and governance as Good. Inspectors noted that the principal and her team are dedicated and committed to the UAE's national priorities, working collaboratively with clear responsibilities to improve children's learning experiences. Parents and community engagement was rated Very Good — a genuine strength, with parents actively informed through safeguarding workshops, regular progress updates, and meaningful involvement in Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Management, staffing, facilities and resources were also rated Very Good, reflecting well-maintained premises and a purposeful operational environment.
The nursery employs 12 teachers supported by 7 teaching assistants, giving a student-to-teacher ratio of 1:8 — significantly more favourable than the Dubai city average of 1:13.6 across all private schools. For a nursery serving children aged 4–5, this level of adult presence is a meaningful indicator of the quality of individual attention children receive. The largest nationality groups among teaching staff are Jordanian and Egyptian. The school has maintained a Good KHDA rating for five consecutive inspection cycles, from 2017–2018 through 2023–2024 — a record of sustained performance that places it among the more stable Ministry of Education curriculum nurseries in Dubai. Among the 17 Ministry of Education curriculum schools in Dubai, only 7 hold a Good rating, with the majority rated Acceptable, making Al Basateen Nursery's consistency a meaningful distinction within its curriculum peer group. However, inspectors identified areas requiring attention: leadership staff need stronger capacity to identify and share best practices in teaching and learning, and governors must ensure that self-evaluation more accurately reflects the school's actual performance — a pointed finding that parents should weigh alongside the school's genuine strengths.
