Sharjah is preparing for the second phase of evaluating private schools-edcare.ae

Sharjah Private Education Authority has launched the second stage of its performance evaluation program, targeting 64 private schools.

Itqan, the evaluation process, will run until March. The results will then be shared with the schools four weeks after the completion of the evaluation and made public at the end of the school year.

According to Dr. Muhadditha al Hashimi, chairperson of SPEA, the review process was launched after extensive training and covered 36 schools in its first phase between October and November last year.

Four consecutive days are allocated to each school for evaluation. During this time, team members will visit classrooms and review documents at the school. They will also attend school events.

Ali Al Hosani is the Director of SPEA. He explained that schools will receive detailed reports detailing their performance. They will also be given recommendations and ratings between "very weak" and "excellent."

Meetings with partners are part of the review to analyze results from the opinion polls that parents shared in the form of a questionnaire they received prior to the review.

Itqan's second phase, which began this month, will continue through next March. Weekly visits to 64 private schools, including those in Sharjah, will target eight curricula. The program has advanced evaluation mechanisms as the review team conducts periodic class visits and reviews documents. The review team will visit the schools, analyze the results of the opinion polls sent to students' parents in the form of a questionnaire, and submit a comprehensive report that determines the level of the school and its strengths, as well as make recommendations for improvement.

Itqan is a program which measures six main criteria to determine the performance of schools:

  • Student achievement
  • Personal and social development
  • Innovation skills
  • Quality of the teaching and evaluation process
  • Educational curriculum
  • Quality in protecting and caring for the students
  • Providing guidance and support
  • Quality in school leadership and management

The results of the six performance standards are then rated on a six-level scale: outstanding, very good (excellent), good (acceptable), weak (very weak), and weak.
