Leadership & Governance
The Indian High School is governed by a philanthropic Board of Trustees on a certified not-for-profit basis — a structure that sets it apart from the majority of Dubai's private school operators. CEO Punit MK Vasu, himself an alumnus of IHS, leads the group alongside Honorary Chairman Harish Pawani, bringing an institutional continuity and community-rooted ethos that is rare in Dubai's competitive school market. At campus level, Principal Mala Mehra has led the Oud Metha school since her appointment on 7 July 2022, providing stable day-to-day leadership within a broader governance structure that KHDA inspectors rated Very Good in the 2023–2024 inspection cycle.
The KHDA inspection found that leaders at all levels, inspired by the principal, set a very clear direction and engage in strategic school improvement planning. The effectiveness of leadership and school self-evaluation and improvement planning were both rated Very Good. Governance was noted to fulfil all statutory requirements, with governors described as keen for all students to achieve the very best outcomes. The school's daily operations were characterised by inspectors as smooth and systematic, aimed at maximising student achievement. One area for continued development is ensuring that outstanding teaching practices — already evident in pockets across the school — are implemented consistently across all grades and subjects.
IHS operates with 317 teachers serving 5,309 students, producing a student-to-teacher ratio of 1:16. This sits above the Dubai-wide average of 1:13.6 across 204 schools with ratio data — a meaningful gap for parents to consider, particularly given the school's very large enrolment. [MISSING: staff qualification percentages, e.g. proportion holding Masters or above] Staff morale and retention, however, appear strong: the KHDA wellbeing report specifically noted high levels of morale and staff retention, with teachers reporting that their contributions are valued — a positive signal in a sector where turnover can disrupt continuity of care.
Parent engagement is a standout feature of IHS's community culture. Parents and the Community received an Outstanding rating in the 2023–2024 inspection — the highest possible — with inspectors noting that parents are empowered as genuine partners in promoting student wellbeing. Effective communication channels, including QR codes for wellbeing concerns, ensure rapid feedback loops between school and home. Among Indian curriculum schools in Dubai, where only 1 of 34 schools holds an Outstanding overall rating, IHS's community engagement record stands as a genuine differentiator. The school has also received the Sheikh Hamdan Award for Distinguished School and School Administration on two occasions, and the group was recognised at the Middle East Enterprise AI & Analytics Summit 2024, reflecting leadership ambition that extends beyond the classroom.
