Leadership & Governance
Repton School Al Barsha is led by Principal Mrs. Chandini Misra, an Oxford-educated chemist who took up her post on 8 January 2023. A STEM specialist who graduated from Keble College, University of Oxford with an MChem in Chemistry, Mrs. Misra brings experience across state and independent schools in London, Leeds, Sevenoaks, and Dubai. Her senior leadership team is well-structured, with Ms. Ashleigh Thompson heading the Junior School, Mrs. Zoe Cass leading Senior School pastoral care, Mr. Ben Fox serving as Deputy Head Pastoral in the Junior School, Mrs. Ami Perry as SENCO and Inclusion Champion, and Dr. Hussein Yousri as Head of Islamic Studies. The breadth and specialist credentials of this team signal a school investing seriously in distributed leadership.
The 2023–2024 KHDA inspection rated leadership effectiveness as Very Good, with governance rated Outstanding and management of staffing, facilities and resources rated Outstanding. Inspectors highlighted the vision and commitment of the principal and leadership team as one of the school's defining strengths, noting that governors are influential and that the school benefits from strong ties to the Repton Family of Schools, operated under Cognita Middle East. The school has held a Very Good KHDA rating continuously since 2017–2018 — a record of consistency that places it among the more stable performers across 105 British curriculum schools in Dubai, of which only 18 hold the top Outstanding rating. Separately, the school holds BSO Outstanding accreditation, the independent British Schools Overseas standard, which adds an additional layer of external validation to its leadership and governance quality.
Teaching quality is a clear strength in the early years. The inspection rated teaching and assessment Outstanding in Foundation Stage and Very Good across Primary and Secondary. Inspectors noted that teachers generally have strong subject knowledge, plan stimulating lessons, and use questioning effectively. However, consistency across phases remains a development area — the inspection explicitly flagged that teaching quality is not uniform throughout the school, and that greater alignment between department plans and the school development plan is needed. The school's 96 teachers serve 1,303 students, producing a student-to-teacher ratio of 1:14 — slightly above the Dubai private school average of 1:13.6 but broadly in line with sector norms. Staff morale is described as very high in the inspection report, and almost all new staff report feeling fully supported on joining. The inspection noted a strong sense of belonging among staff — a meaningful signal of retention health, though no specific turnover figures are published. Parents and community relations are rated Outstanding, with parents described as happy with provision and engaged through workshops, panel discussions on wellbeing, and direct communication channels. This is one of the school's most consistently praised attributes across inspection cycles. The school's wellbeing vision — "Better Every Day" — is embedded in leadership practice and underpins a culture that inspectors found to be genuinely positive and student-centred.
