Superintendent Monique Flickinger leads the American Community School of Abu Dhabi at the helm of a deep and experienced senior team. Flickinger brings more than 20 years of teaching and leadership experience across the United States, Canada, Costa Rica and Panama. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Brigham Young University, a Master's degree in Education from the University of Victoria, a Certificate of Teaching and Leading from Harvard University, and is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Wyoming — a profile that signals both academic rigour and a genuine commitment to ongoing professional development. She is supported by Assistant Superintendent Amy Greene and a full tier of phase principals: ES Principal Jonathan Mueller, MS Principal Karl Poulin, and HS Principal Kathy Mackay, the latter arriving with an eleven-year tenure as principal of an IB World School in Colorado. The breadth and depth of this leadership bench is notable, and the presence of doctoral-level study across multiple senior figures reflects a culture of intellectual ambition at the top of the organisation.

ADEK inspectors rated leadership effectiveness Outstanding and self-evaluation and improvement planning Outstanding in the May 2023 inspection — the school's most recent review. Governance was rated Very Good, the only leadership-related indicator not yet at the top grade, and represents the clearest area for continued development. The school is governed by a volunteer, elected Board of Trustees — an independent non-profit structure uncommon among Abu Dhabi's private schools — and the Board approved a new Strategic Plan in September 2025, signalling active forward planning. ACS is operated as an Independent Non-profit institution, with no commercial ownership group behind it.

Teaching quality is a clear strength. Inspectors rated teaching and assessment Outstanding in both Middle and High School phases, and Very Good in KG and Elementary phases — a strong and consistent picture across the school. The 112 teachers recorded at inspection are drawn primarily from the United States, Canada and Lebanon, reflecting the school's American curriculum identity. The student-to-teacher ratio stands at 1:10, meaningfully better than the Abu Dhabi city average of 1:13.6 across all curriculum types and exceptionally strong among American curriculum schools in Abu Dhabi. This ratio translates directly into individual attention and smaller class environments — a tangible differentiator for families weighing options.

Partnerships with parents were rated Outstanding by ADEK inspectors, the highest possible grade. ACS operates an active PTA, runs regular parent forums, and offers campus tours on Monday through Wednesday mornings — practical signals of an open and engaged school community. The school's mission — to empower students to define and shape their futures for learning, service and global citizenship — is reflected in a leadership team that spans multiple continents of experience and consistently models the curiosity and compassion it asks of its students. One area warranting parental attention: Arabic language and Islamic Education attainment remain rated Acceptable across all phases, a persistent gap that the school has not yet resolved despite its otherwise Outstanding profile.
