American Academy for Girls, Dubai
American School in Al Mizhar 1, Dubai

The Executive Summary
The honest caveat is that AAG is not for every family. The school's middle school phase is the acknowledged weak link, with DSIB inspectors recommending improvement in student outcomes across all subjects at that level, and reading literacy development requiring a more urgent, systematic response. The student body is 75% Emirati, which creates a culturally rich but less internationally diverse environment than many expatriate families may seek. The campus, while well-resourced for its size, is a smaller-footprint school with 549 students - intimate and community-oriented, but without the breadth of specialist facilities found at larger Dubai institutions. For parents comparing Al Mizhar 1 schools, AAG's unique girls-only positioning, Taaleem backing, and genuine pastoral warmth make it a strong shortlist candidate - provided the middle school trajectory continues its upward trend.

“The school genuinely feels like an extension of our family. The teachers know our daughter by name from day one, and the all-girls environment has given her a confidence I do not think she would have found elsewhere.”

Pastoral Care & Well-being
“The pastoral care here is unlike anything we experienced at our previous school. The counsellors know our daughter personally, and the house system means she always has a peer community looking out for her. We genuinely feel the school cares about her as a person, not just as a student.”

KHDA Inspection Results (Decoded)
Teaching and assessment in the middle school phase is rated Good rather than Very Good, and DSIB inspectors specifically recommend improving student outcomes in all subjects at this level. This is the most significant gap between the school's best performance (KG and Elementary) and its weakest phase.
Inspectors recommend enhancing reading abilities across all subjects and all phases. The school received reading diagnostic assessment results but had not yet analysed or acted on them at the time of inspection - a gap that requires urgent attention to improve comprehension and writing outcomes.

Fees & Value for Money
American Academy for Girls (AAG) offers a structured fee schedule for the 2025/26 academic year, ranging from AED 36,485 for Pre-KG up to AED 65,270 for Grades 9–12. Fees are split across three terms, with Term 1 carrying the largest portion (approximately 40%) and Terms 2 and 3 sharing the remainder equally. The school's fee structure conforms with KHDA regulations in the UAE, and the school holds a consistent Good overall DSIB rating, reflecting strong value for the fees charged.
The school provides books on a loan basis, meaning families are not required to purchase textbooks outright, which reduces ancillary costs. Additional costs include a one-time application fee of AED 525 (inclusive of 5% VAT), a registration fee for new students, and optional expenses such as school bus transport, uniforms, and extra-curricular activities. A 10% sibling discount on tuition is available for the third and subsequent child in a family attending any Taaleem school in Dubai, making AAG a competitive choice for larger families within the Taaleem network.
Payments can be made by cash, credit card (MasterCard and Visa only), bank transfer, or cheque. Emirates NBD and Mastercard credit card holders may also convert school payments into 0% instalment plans. Term 1 fees are due by 2nd August, Term 2 by 6th December, and Term 3 by 14th March, giving families a clear and predictable payment schedule throughout the academic year.

The Final Verdict: Who Is This School For?
THE “RIGHT FIT”
Families seeking a girls-only American curriculum school in Dubai, particularly Emirati, Arab, and Muslim families for whom single-gender education and Islamic values integration are priorities. Also well-suited to families with daughters who thrive in a close-knit, community-oriented environment where pastoral care and personal development are as important as academic results.
THE “WRONG FIT”
Families seeking a highly internationally diverse student body, a co-educational environment, or a school with a proven track record of Very Good or Outstanding overall DSIB ratings. Also not ideal for families whose daughter is entering the middle school phase and whose primary concern is academic outcomes - the school's own improvement recommendations acknowledge this phase requires continued attention.
We chose AAG because there was simply nowhere else in Dubai offering this combination - American curriculum, all girls, with the backing of a serious education group. Three years in, our daughter is more confident, more articulate, and more herself than we could have hoped. The school is not perfect, but it is genuinely committed to these girls.
