Curriculum & Academics
Al Muneera Private School delivers the UAE Ministry of Education (MoE) curriculum across all stages from KG1 through Grade 12, organised into four cycles: KG, Cycle 1 (Grades 1–4), Cycle 2 (Grades 5–8), and Cycle 3 (Grades 9–12). Arabic is the primary language of instruction, with English taught as a core subject throughout. The school is one of only 17 MoE-curriculum private schools in Abu Dhabi, making it a relatively rare choice in a market dominated by British and American programmes. For Arab-speaking families seeking continuity with the national system — particularly those from Sudanese, Yemeni, and Syrian backgrounds, which represent the school's largest nationality groups — this pathway offers a culturally grounded and cost-accessible route to a UAE Grade 12 qualification.
The school's most significant academic headline is its PISA 2022 performance, in which Al Muneera exceeded all three international targets: scientific literacy 409 (target 408.4), reading literacy 403.7 (target 378.4), and mathematical literacy 418.7 (target 394). These results, drawn from Grade 10 students, were specifically cited by ADEK inspectors as evidence of strong attainment in Cycle 3 and contributed to the school's improved overall rating. The MoE Grade 12 national exam similarly showed that most students attained above curriculum standards. These are genuine data points of distinction for a school at this fee level.
Specialist programmes include a Gifted and Talented stream, a dedicated SEN/Inclusion provision with a recently appointed specialist teacher, and early literacy support through the Jolly Phonics scheme in KG and the Kutubee online interactive reading platform across the school. The school also participates in the Arabic Reading Challenge and external robotics and sports competitions, with reported first-place finishes at Abu Dhabi level. Interactive smart boards are installed in all classrooms, and a central library holds 3,334 books in Arabic and English.
The 2023–24 ADEK Irtiqaa inspection rated Al Muneera as Good — an improvement from Acceptable in 2022–23 — placing it among 7 of the 17 MoE-curriculum private schools in Abu Dhabi rated Good, with the remaining 10 holding only an Acceptable rating. This upward trajectory is meaningful context for parents. However, inspectors were clear that achievement remains uneven: attainment in Cycle 3 is notably stronger than in earlier cycles, where most subjects across KG, Cycle 1, and Cycle 2 remain at the Acceptable level. Teaching quality follows the same pattern — rated Good only in Cycle 3, and Acceptable elsewhere. Assessment practices were judged Acceptable across all four cycles.
Inspectors identified several specific areas requiring improvement. These include students' Arabic and English speaking skills in Cycles 1 and 2, accuracy of written Arabic in lower cycles, KG children's cross-curricular use of English, mathematical problem-solving linked to real-life contexts, mental calculation skills particularly in Cycle 2, and science investigation skills in KG and early cycles. Governance was rated Acceptable, with inspectors recommending that governors establish a more structured programme of accountability visits. Compared to peer MoE schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Muneera's Cycle 3 performance stands out positively, but the gap between upper-school and lower-school outcomes remains the programme's most pressing academic challenge.
