Abu Dhabi Indian School - Wathba delivers the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum from KG through Grade 12 (Affiliation No. 6630083), supplemented by the UAE Ministry of Education programme for Arabic, Islamic Studies, and Moral Education. Instruction is conducted in English, with Arabic, Hindi, Malayalam, and French (from Grade 8) offered as additional languages. There is no secondary pathway divergence — all students follow a single academic track to the CBSE Grade 10 and Grade 12 board examinations, meaning the school does not offer vocational routes or an alternative international qualification such as the IB Diploma.
Academic results at the board examination level are a clear strength. CBSE Grade 10 and Grade 12 results in English were rated outstanding, while Grade 12 Mathematics and the Grade 12 Islamic Education MoE national examination were also rated outstanding. Grade 10 Mathematics attained a very good rating. These outcomes represent the school's strongest performance data and compare favourably within the Indian curriculum sector in Abu Dhabi. On international benchmarks, the picture is more nuanced: PISA 2022 scores of 470.5 in reading literacy, 477.1 in mathematical literacy, and 489.8 in scientific literacy all fell below the school's own set targets, though mathematical and scientific literacy scores exceeded the international average. TIMSS 2019 results indicated students in Grades 4 and 8 did not meet set targets in science and mathematics, and ACER IBT assessments showed weak attainment across Phases 2 and 3 — a gap between internal CBSE performance and external benchmarking that inspectors explicitly flagged.
The school's 2024–25 ADEK Irtiqaa inspection rated overall performance as Very Good, an improvement from Good in the previous cycle — a meaningful upward trajectory. Teaching was rated Very Good across all four phases, and English attainment and progress reached Very Good in every phase. Among Indian curriculum schools in Abu Dhabi, this places ADIS Wathba in the upper tier: of the 34 Indian curriculum schools rated by ADEK, only 10 hold a Very Good rating, with just one rated Outstanding. Mathematics attainment, however, remains rated Good in Cycles 1, 2, and 3, and Arabic as a second language sits at Acceptable in Cycles 1 and 2 — both subjects identified as priority areas for improvement.
The school's pedagogical approach is a distinguishing feature. The Flipped Classroom model is embedded from primary through senior secondary, with students engaging with instructional content independently before class time is used for collaborative problem-solving. AI Integration is woven into lessons to provide personalised feedback, and Experiential Learning is a stated school-wide methodology. A Gifted and Talented programme and SEN/Inclusion provision for People of Determination — with 101 students of determination currently enrolled — are both in place, though inspectors noted that meeting the learning needs of these specific groups remains inconsistent, particularly for students of determination in Phases 1 and 4 and more able students across phases.
Inspectors identified several areas requiring sustained attention: raising attainment in Arabic and Mathematics to consistently Very Good; improving IBT outcomes to align with CBSE standards; strengthening teacher questioning strategies to elicit extended responses; and embedding more systematic use of assessment data to track individual student progress. The school's monitoring, evaluation, and improvement planning procedures were also rated Good rather than Very Good, indicating that leadership infrastructure has not yet fully kept pace with the school's academic ambitions. Compared to peer Indian curriculum schools, the absence of a vocational pathway, limited electronic resources in libraries, and the gap between strong internal CBSE results and weaker international benchmark scores represent areas where the school trails more comprehensively resourced competitors.
