Curriculum & Approach
Kidz Mate Nursery follows the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum framework, structuring classrooms around exploration corners that support each area of a child's development. Maths and construction corners sit alongside role play, dress-up and messy sensory play areas, encouraging children to learn through hands-on discovery. As children progress through the nursery's age-based groups, the emphasis gradually shifts from free, play-based exploration towards a more structured routine in preparation for primary school. Foundation Stage 1 and Foundation Stage 2 classes introduce children to more formal early literacy and numeracy activities, including pre-reading and writing skills supported by phonics-based techniques, while still keeping learning enjoyable and child-led. Staff are described as holding a minimum of a Cache Level 3 qualification for teachers and Cache Level 2 for teaching assistants, supporting consistent delivery of the curriculum across all rooms.
Ages & Programs
Age range: 45 days to 5 years
Kidz Mate Nursery groups children according to both age and individual developmental needs. The Baby Group welcomes infants from 45 days to 24 months, maintaining a 1:4 adult-to-child ratio. The Toddler/Nursery Group caters for children aged 2 to 3 years, with a maximum of twelve children per group and a 1:6 ratio. Foundation Stage 1 is designed for children aged 3 to 4 years, with up to eighteen children per group and a 1:8 ratio, introducing a more structured routine to prepare children for school while retaining play-based learning. Foundation Stage 2 continues this preparation for the transition into Year 1/Grade 1, with active learning balanced against readiness for a more formal school environment. The nursery also references specific classroom bands including Toddlers (12–28 months), Beginners (2.4–3.6 years), Foundation 1 (3.6–4.6 years) and Foundation 2 (4.6–5 years). Two daily sessions run — an early morning and a mid-morning programme — each accommodating up to sixty children, with a full-day option from 7:00am to 2:00pm and extended care available until 6:00pm, five days a week.
