GEMS Modern Academy, founded in 1986 in Nad Al Sheba, operates one of Dubai's most structurally distinctive academic programs: a dual-pathway curriculum that begins with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) from KG through Grade 5, then branches at Grade 6 into either the Indian CISCE track (ICSE/ISC) or the IB Middle Years Programme, culminating in a choice between the Indian ISC or the IB Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12. An ASDAN alternative pathway is also available for students who require it. This architecture — rare in Dubai's private school landscape — gives families meaningful flexibility at the secondary level without requiring a school change.

The school's inspection record is exceptional by any measure. GMA has held a KHDA Outstanding rating for 12 consecutive years, from 2012–2013 through 2023–2024. To contextualise that: only 23 of Dubai's 233 private schools currently hold an Outstanding rating — roughly 10% of the sector. Among Indian curriculum schools specifically, GMA stands alone: it is the only Outstanding-rated Indian curriculum school in Dubai, in a cohort of 34 Indian curriculum schools where the majority are rated Good or below. The 2023–2024 inspection rated leadership, governance, curriculum design, personal development, and care and support all Outstanding, with wellbeing rated Very Good.

Academic performance data reinforces the inspection findings. ASSET benchmark results show every grade achieving outstanding levels in English in both 2022 and 2023. Mathematics improved from five grades outstanding and two very good in 2022 to six outstanding and one very good in 2023. Science maintained six outstanding and one very good grade across both testing sessions. The KHDA inspection confirmed Outstanding attainment and progress in science across all phases — KG, Primary, Middle, and Secondary — and Outstanding English attainment across all phases. Mathematics attainment is Outstanding in KG, Primary, and Middle, dropping to Very Good in Secondary, though progress remains Outstanding across all phases. PIRLS reading scores improved from 600 in 2016 to 605 in 2022, though the school's own target of 610 for that cycle was not fully met; the next target is 615 by 2026. IB Diploma pass rate and average score data are not publicly available.

The school's enrichment architecture is a genuine differentiator. The Activities for Curriculum Enrichment (ACE) programme is compulsory for Grades 6–12 twice weekly, integrating co-curricular learning into the timetable rather than treating it as optional. Within ACE sits the Accelerator programme, which includes Circinate — a dedicated strand for gifted and talented students — alongside problem-solving modules and mentoring for those needing additional subject support. The school holds membership of the Round Square international network (200 schools across 50 countries) and offers the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, both of which extend learning beyond the campus. A dedicated Career Cell supports university preparation, with alumni placed at institutions including Yale, Stanford, UCLA, IIT, and NIT.

Inclusion provision is rated Outstanding, with 219 students of determination currently enrolled. The school offers four languages of study — Arabic, Hindi, French, and Spanish — alongside English as the medium of instruction. Arabic as an additional language is a noted weak point: attainment and progress in Secondary are rated only Acceptable, a meaningful gap relative to the school's otherwise high standards. Inspectors also flagged inconsistency in teaching quality in Primary, particularly in the use of assessment data to plan differentiated lessons, the implementation of targeted support strategies for students of determination and gifted learners, and the quality of personalised feedback. These are recurring themes in the recommendations and represent the clearest areas for improvement. Compared to peer Outstanding-rated schools — particularly those in the British curriculum sector, where 18 of Dubai's 23 Outstanding schools are concentrated — GMA does not publish granular external examination data (such as IB Diploma score distributions), which limits direct academic benchmarking for parents evaluating senior school outcomes.
